Welcome to EPEL 7000 Course Reflection Blog!

Welcome to EPEL 7000 Course Reflection Blog!

I am excited about reading your blogs for this semester!  We will follow the format and schedule below for posting Blogs.  This schedule includes the minimum number of posts and responses. Remember, you can always do more than what is required.  Students must write 5 blog posts throughout the semester and comment on posts by at least five of their peers.  Students should do this over the semester rather than posting all posts at the end of the semester.  Below is the schedule for your blog posts and responses.

Students should post about something education related that they have on their mind.  Some post prompts are below:
  • I’m really passionate about…
  • I’ve really been struggling with…
  • A recent success I’ve had was when....
  • A recent challenge I’ve had was when....
  • Can anyone help me with....
Posts should be approximately 300-500 words in length and students can use them to reflect on any leadership activity.

Including links, pictures, videos, and resources is a great way to strengthen your posts.

  2. A recent challenge I've encountered is student data. I have struggled to encourage teachers to use daily data reflections when analyzing student mastery. In October, managers rolled out a Daily Data Dive (D3) protocol that walks teachers through three questions and helps them plan for re-teaching. Unfortunately, I have found that my teachers are not assessing daily and sometimes the assessments are not aligned or are low rigor. Teachers seem reluctant to use data and tell me that the work load of assessing and reflecting daily is too much for their current workload. I cut back reflection to once a week, but even now it is difficult to get every teacher to complete it with fidelity. I think my next step will be to complete the protocol with my teachers during our weekly one-on-one meeting. Hopefully, this new approach will help build their confidence and increase fidelity because we both will be held accountable for completing necessary data reflection.
